A little about me

I’m Nicola Cook, an independent Personal Assistant based in Offerton, Stockport.
For over six years, I’ve supported adults living with dementia, including younger-onset dementia, in their own homes and out in the community. My experience ranges from personal care and familiar daily routines to respite stays and accompanying people on breaks away for several days, including trips to the coast.
That experience has taught me how much the little things matter. Knowing how someone likes their morning to begin. Making time to listen. Recognising when a plan needs to slow down or change. Offering calm reassurance when someone feels confused, anxious or unsettled.
I take time to get to know the person: their interests, their personality and what they want to keep doing for themselves. Support should leave room for choice, independence and the things that make life enjoyable.
When you arrange support with me, you’re getting to know the person who will be alongside you. One familiar face, with the patience and practical experience to help at home and the confidence to support life beyond it.

Out in the world, together
Making room for the things you enjoy.
Support can be about much more than staying at home.
A coffee out. A walk somewhere familiar. Shopping. A favourite activity. An appointment. A community group or workshop. A day out. A dementia disco. Or simply getting out of the house for a few hours.
I support people to keep doing the things that make their week feel like their week — adapting plans around how they’re feeling on the day.

A change of scene. Time for a chat.

A familiar walk, a workshop, somewhere to explore.

Favourite songs and a little time together.

Making time for familiar hobbies, creative activities and the things you enjoy doing.
Including people living with younger-onset dementia. Your interests, your choices and your pace.
Experience that fits real life
Sometimes the right support is help getting ready in the morning. Sometimes it’s a longer stay so family can take a break. And sometimes it’s having someone alongside you to make a trip away possible.

I have hands-on experience with personal care, dressing and daily routines. I offer patient, respectful help, taking time to understand what feels comfortable and supporting people to do what they can for themselves.
My experience includes staying in people’s homes to provide respite support. Familiar surroundings and routines can continue while family members have time to rest or attend to other parts of life. Sleepovers and longer stays can be discussed around your needs.
I have accompanied people on trips away for several days, including to the coast. A change of scene can still have familiar support at its heart: someone alongside you for daily routines, reassurance and time to enjoy being away.
For longer stays or a break away, we would talk through the support needed, travel, accommodation, routines and availability together before agreeing arrangements. The aim is a plan that feels right for the person, with room to adapt.
